The initial inspiration for these paintings was the work of the artist Rory McEwen (1932-1982). He produced a set of watercolours on vellum called ‘True Facts from Nature’ in which he grouped together leaves, seeds and anything else he found that appealed to him. Although the images were botanically accurate he seemed more interested in the detail and placement on the page than identifying the different species. My aim was to use similar criteria for this set of paintings - the subjects that appealed to me were plants that were past their prime.
Original watercolours for sale, each with antique white double mount. As a guide on size, all plants are painted life-size (Prices and dimensions on request).
